Investing in the future

JD McGeown, a Belfast-headquartered electrical and facilities management contractor that has provided ‘precision engineering solutions’ since 1961, serving clients in the healthcare, education, hospitality, retail, arts, community, leisure, and heritage, and residential sectors, has joined IHEEM as a Company Affiliate.

In addition to its Belfast headquarters, the business, which employs some 90 staff, operates two other ‘strategicallylocated’ offices in Northern Ireland, one in Omagh, and the other in Londonderry. The company says it has been has awarded ‘many accreditations and recognitions from governing bodies and inspectorates’, hence providing clients with ‘reassurance that they are receiving the highest quality workmanship, as well as project management which is regularly audited by independent bodies’. It adds: “JD McGeown has accumulated five decades of experience in managing expansive projects across all industry sectors. Many of these projects and clients have enjoyed the simplicity, ease of management, and cost efficiencies, that can be made by having a single, specialised contractor, who can fulfil and deliver end-to-end solutions to their requirements.” JD McGeown was recently among a number of firms to support a campaign by the Belfast Telegraph newspaper entitled ‘100 Jobs in 100 days’, which aims to ‘encourage business owners to invest in their own companies, and in young people, by hiring apprentices’. According to a recent Belfast Telegraph, story, published on 20 June, and quoting JD McGeown contracts manager, Marty McCusker, the company ‘stopped its apprenticeship scheme during the downturn, but found it had no new blood to replace staff who were retiring or leaving for new jobs’. In the past six months, the article added, it had taken on three new apprentices, who were ‘getting an insight into all aspects of the trade – industry, administration, estimating, quantity surveying, and management’
