Patients in a new seven cubicle recovery suite at the Day Surgery Unit at the St Mary’s Hospital in Newport, on the Isle of Wight, are benefitting from an Airwave patient entertainment system incorporating wall-mounted Samsung Healthcare LCD HD televisions.
The IOW NHS PCT tasked Airwave with supplying a system installable within the tight confines of curtained-off cubicles where patients need to able to be observed, cared for, and seen by clinicians, in a comfortable environment, with good privacy. It was essential that the system have no impact on access to, and the limited working space within, each cubicle, create no noise nuisance between or across cubicles, and provide a good viewing experience without potential eye strain. Mounting solutions were limited, as the building has internal partition walls and a suspended ceiling, with the ceiling void incorporating no suitable facilities for ceiling mount poles. Airwave supplied Samsung Healthcare 19” LCD HD televisions, fitted to wallmounted Elite articulated LCD TV arms, plus ‘simple-to-use, easy-to-read, and fully wipeable’ Samsung PureCare remote control units. The white Samsung 19” screen is ‘ideal for close range viewing’, while features of the set include volume limitation, ‘remote control and TV pairing’ to prevent ‘crossfiring’, and channel line-up selection features. The Elite arm has a wall mount track that enables secure fixing to internal partition walls by ‘spreading the load’, and an internal cable management system designed to aid cleaning and infection control regimes.
