Combining the best of the old and new

Bristan claims to be the UK’s largest supplier of bathroom and kitchen taps, and the second largest of mixer showers. With the launch, early in July 2011, as part of a major re-branding exercise, of ‘a tailored collection’ of taps, showers, and accessories, for commercial and public sector applications that brought together its own products with those from Sirrus by Gummers, the company is now targeting healthcare more seriously than ever before.

Head of commercial specification, Richard Braid, told HEJ editor, Jonathan Baillie, that there are a number of exciting innovations already developed for healthcare specifiers, and several others ‘in the pipeline’.

The combined ‘portfolio’ of taps, showers, and accessories – comprising some 100 Bristan and 80 Sirrus by Gummers products – was brought together within one unified range in early July 2011, and is claimed to be one of the market’s most comprehensive. It is being targeted strongly at commercial and public sector applications, including, in healthcare, at hospitals, nursing, and care homes, as well as at smaller, local facilities such as GPs’ surgeries. By integrating products from Sirrus by Gummers, a long-established UK manufacturer of taps, showers, and water controls to the commercial market, founded in 1871 at Rotherham’s Effingham Brass Works, with products from its own range, Bristan says its aim is to provide architects and specifiers with ‘a total solution for stylish, safe, and durable products for bathrooms and washrooms’. The product range, Richard Braid explained when I met up with him in London, now includes not only TMV3 thermostatic mixing valves and HTM 64-compliant basin mixers, timed flow taps, and showers, but also thermostatic showers, and basin and bath shower mixers. Also offered are shower panels, shower kits and accessories, Doc M packs, and ‘co-ordinated tap, shower, and accessory, collections’.
