On the evening of 9 October at Healthcare Estates 2012, the Institute held its Annual Conference Dinner – this year staged at Manchester’s magnificent Midland Hotel, built in 1903 by the Midland Railway to serve the adjacent Manchester Central railway station.
After a drinks reception at which around 300 guests were able to catch up on some of the news from the show’s first day, network, and make new contacts, attendees enjoyed a three-course meal in the Hotel’s Alexandra Suite, followed by the presentation of the 2012 IHEEM Awards. This year’s winners were:
• The John Bolton Memorial Award for Excellence in the Field of Education, Training and Development – The Northern Ireland Regional Estates Training Group.
• The Lucas Scholarship Award for Significant Contribution to Branch Activities – Steven Palmer, Assistant Director of Facilities at NHS Oldham.
• The William E Schall Award for Excellence in Medical Technologies – Jack Tompsett, a recent graduate from the Eastwood Park Foundation Degree Course in Medical Technologies.
• The Northcroft Silver Medal – awarded annually to a member who has written the technical paper published in HEJ considered to have contributed most to the advancement of healthcare engineering – Jimmy Walker and Peter Hoffman of the Health Protection Agency.
• The Lifetime Achievement Award – David Harper (One of the UK’s leading experts in the field of Legionella, waterborne contamination prevention, and emergency response).
