DLG Architects has been retained by HBOS and the Clerical Medical Investment Group to complete enabling works on the UK’s first NHS walk-in centre for commuters in a city shopping complex.
The new centre will provide shoppers, city centre residents and office workers with basic health services such as examinations, blood checks, contraceptive advice and dressing and wound care without the need for an appointment. The 780 m2 clinic will also handle minor ailments and injuries to relieve pressure from Leeds casualty departments.
DLG Architects has already begun work on behalf of the landlord to construct public access points to the new medical centre that is to occupy three upper level floors.
While the building façade will see minimal alterations, more than £250,000 will be spent on internal building alterations to facilitate public access. This includes a new staircase and lift providing the main public entrance directly from the high street. Limited access will also be provided from the Esporta gym via the existing link bridge in the Arcade.
As lead consultants for the project, DLG has co-ordinated operations with the local Primary Care Trust so that work can commence on the internal fit out.
