Britplas, well known for its ‘multi awardwinning’ Safevent window, will show an in-house designed ‘revolutionary bedroom door’ which it says ‘addresses the key safety concerns associated with mental health settings’.
The fully programmable SafeSee incorporates an opaque observation panel that ensures patient privacy but, at the swipe of a card or a fob, it can be rendered instantly clear to allow full viewing. The time, and the name of the staff member carrying out the observation, are instantly logged, for an auditable record. The whole door is designed as a programmable scale, allowing staff to set the trigger point for notification of a ligature taking place on any part. The design team can choose, say, 40 kg for an adult male ward, and set a delay of say, eight seconds, before an alert is triggered. The parameters can be changed at any time using a simple Windows programme. In addition, the door opens inwards, but has an invisible, instant release anti-barricade jamb operated by the same card or fob. The instant access is also recorded when triggered.
