Buenos Aires the venue for 2014 Congress

Over 500 professionals from the healthcare estates and facilities, healthcare engineering, architectural, and associated fields, are expected to gather at the 23rd IFHE Congress at the UCA University in Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires in October 2014.

Where experts from a wide range of different disciplines will give presentations on hospital architecture and engineering. Being held from 12-16 October, 2014, the Congress will, the organisers promise, ‘provide a comprehensive overview both of those achievements that have stood the test of time’, and ‘new trends’, under the theme, ‘The hospital in times of radical change’. An accompanying exhibition will see a substantial number of both local and international companies showcase their products and services, while delegates will also be offered technical visits to local hospitals. The 2014 IFHE Congress will be organised by the Argentinian Association of Hospital Architecture and Engineering (AADAIH); this is the first time that an IFHE Congress has been held in Latin America. The organisers say: “From the capital of Argentina, a referential showcase of the transformations evidenced in the region, we will have the opportunity to develop common strategies aimed at sustainable solutions against a backdrop of increasingly scarce resources, and urgent demands on our environment.” The key conference topics planned are:

•  Sustainability: from economic, social, and cultural standpoints.
•  ‘Humanisation’: looking at the topic from a holistic ‘patient’ standpoint, at cultural diversity aspects, and at ‘new proposals for healthcare’.
•  ‘New scenarios’: considering the evolution of current healthcare services towards ‘a vision of the future hospital to be solved by the interdisciplinary team’.

Of the conference venue, the UCA Puerto Madero, the organisers add: “The building housing the main auditorium, on Avenida Alicia M. de Justo (pictured), is part of the last of the recycled docks of Puerto Madero, a place where high quality architecture intermingles with modern technology. Puerto Madero is conveniently located on the banks of Rio de la Plata. This district, the streets of which pay tribute to outstanding women in Argentina’s history, has become an exclusive residential, business, and gastronomic centre of the City, being visited by millions of travellers each year. It is a strategic central point of the city, via which it is very easy to reach other points of interest.” Attendance capacity for the Congress is limited; registration will commence this December.
