B&ES’s new CEO developed ‘vision and strategy’

Roderick Pettigrew, deputy chief executive of the Association (formerly the HVCA) since 2008, has been appointed as the new chief executive of B&ES – the Building & Engineering Services Association – with immediate effect, following Blane Judd’s decision to step down in late June.

B&ES President, Bruce Bisset, said: “Roderick Pettigrew had an unrivalled understanding of the Association, and a deep appreciation of the needs of its membership, having worked closely over the past two years with the officer team in developing a vision and strategy.”

The new B&ES CEO acknowledges, however, that the Association, and the sector it serves, faces ‘very significant challenges’. “The continuing recession, technological advances, radical changes in working practices, and the imperatives of the low-carbon agenda, mean the industry must be prepared to adapt to the developing requirements of the marketplace,” he insisted. “It is essential that members can rely on us for the expert advice, guidance, and practical support they will need in the challenging days ahead.”

A member of the council of the CBI, and of the policy board of the United Kingdom Contractors’ Group, Roderick Pettigrew is also general secretary (UK) of GCI-UICP, the European ‘umbrella body’ for the HVACR and plumbing industries.

A lawyer by background, educated at the University of Westminster, and the Inns of Court Law School, he served as legal adviser to the Construction Plant Hire Association before joining B&ES in 1990.
