Balfour Beatty, through its Cowlin brand, has won a £6.3 million contract at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, for the North Bristol NHS Trust, to design and build a new four-storey extension to the Hospital’s existing Learning and Research building.
Meanwhile Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES), one of the UK’s largest mechanical and electrical building services businesses, has begun work on the £3.1m building services at the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital Pathology Centre of Excellence in Gateshead (see artist’s impression), for main contractor Miller Construction. The new facility, on the site of a former laundry building, will house a pathology ‘centre for excellence’, with a laboratory to cover a variety of testing, and a ‘hot lab’ for ‘immediate results’.
BBES is providing services including LV power distribution and uninterruptable power supply, fire alarm, security, heating, domestics, and air conditioning systems. It will also provide specialist autoclave, cold room, de-ionised water, and pneumatic tube installations. The project is due to complete in November. BBES is partnering with Miller, DSSR, Ryder, and WSP, under a P21+ framework.
