Howorth Air Technology, which has already successfully completed many projects throughout Spire Healthcare’s UK hospitals, has installed its new Exflow Evolution Screenless ultraclean ventilation canopy at the Spire Washington Hospital, replacing the hospital’s existing UCV canopy, from a different supplier.
Howorth has also updated the operating theatre with new medical service pendants, a membrane surgeons’ panel, IPS and UPS equipment, and undertook all associated electrical and building work and decoration. Howorth says Spire was ‘looking firmly to the future’ in its choice of its new screenless canopy; it says such canopies ‘look set to become increasingly popular, as hospitals and clinicians want the most streamlined choices for modern operating theatres and, in particular, integrated theatres’. It added: “The Exflow Evolution has all the benefits associated with the removal of the traditional partial walls, but without the need for low level recirculation ducts, remote fans, or cooling coils, which can obstruct theatre floor and wall space, may not work effectively if obstructed, and, being hard to clean, provide a breeding ground for bacteria.”
