The Magnetic Resonance and Image Analysis Research Centre (MARIARC) at the University of Liverpool has taken possession of a bespoke and full turnkey energy-efficient chiller package to support its MRI scanners, from ICS Cool Energy.
The MARIARC is a shared research facility that contains two high resolution MRI scanners, used both in research projects, and diagnostically for the NHS.
ICS Cool Energy has replaced three existing chiller units with two ‘energy- efficient’ TAEevo units; a TAE161evo and a TAE121evo unit, both with five bar pumps to support the MRI scanners. Richard Metcalfe, sales director, explains: “We ethically removed and disposed of the existing three units, as they were beyond economic repair, and contained R22 refrigerants. Our engineers positioned the bespoke new units, and rebuilt the pipework, electrical, mechanical, and interconnecting signalling, to the remote control panels.
“As the existing chillers had pumps on board under a condenser, we needed to ensure that the new units were similarly set up, and situated the pumps behind the new chillers, making them much easier to service.”
