Keeping the flames at bay

Johnstone’s new Flame Defence System flame-retardant paints have been specifically formulated to inhibit and slow the surface spread of flame. They have been launched to help simplify specifying paint for redecoration over existing paint coatings.

The company said: “The classification of flame retardance required for commercial and residential buildings, as detailed within Document B of the Building Regulations 2010, is Class 1 or Class 0; both new systems meet the expectations detailed.”

The Johnstone’s Flame Retardant top coats feature a Durable Matt and Acrylic Eggshell. Both are ‘ideal’ for application onto new and unpainted surfaces, and for painting over sound existing coatings with up to 10 like-for-like paint layers, maintaining the surface at Class 1 or Class 0.

The range also includes the Intumescent Upgrade System with the capability ‘to upgrade the worst case Class 4 surface to the highest specification for surface spread of flame and fire propagation Class 0’.
