With correct spout outlet selection essential in the fight against healthcareassociated infections, ‘strong discouragement’ of aerator use in hospitals, and even flow straighteners prone to scale. Delabie has developed an open flow spout outlet that replaces the flow straightener.
The company explained: “Essentially, under pressure aerators create an air/water mix which increases aerosol formation risk. Scale can develop on any surface that comes into contact with water, and, as it accumulates, reduces the air/water mix, causing uneven flow and splashing. Any deposits support bacterial growth; hence aerators require regular descaling or replacing.
“More suitable for hospital use, flow straighteners have a special honeycomb structure which limits scale build-up, and do not aspirate air, reducing the risk of aerosol spray. However, while scale development is much slower, it cannot be avoided, which necessitates including flow straightener cleaning and de-scaling into maintenance routines.”
Made from Hostaform, Delabie’s new Biosafe outlet has a smooth inner surface that ‘offers nowhere for impurities or scale to adhere’. The ‘innovative outlet’ has also been designed to be installed on taps with restricted flow rates to ensure the water flows without splashing.
