Anti-barricade door innovation

Britplas, well known for its Safevent anti-ligature window, and a major contributor to the Design in Mental Health Network, will showcase its new Safesee door. The company said:

“The Safesee was developed to address a number of key concerns in mental health settings – the primary one being ligature risk, but we were also mindful of barricading situations, and the desire to observe patients without disturbing them.” With the whole door designed as a programmable scale, staff can set the trigger point for notification of a ligature taking place on any part of the door, which triggers an alert, which is instantly logged and recorded. An opaque observation panel ensures patient privacy but, at the swipe of a card or fob, can be rendered instantly clear. The time and the name of the staff member are instantly logged to create an auditable record. To prevent barricading, the door features an instant release anti-barricade jamb operated by the same card or fob; no keys or tools are needed. The door recently won the Product Design for Healthcare Application Award at the Design & Health World Congress & Exhibition in Australia. Britplas will also show its Safevent windows.
