To help ensure that members of the Institute’s Yorkshire Branch fully understand current emergency lighting regulations and standards, Alan Daniels, technical director at P4, one of the UK’s leading self-testing emergency lighting specialists, recently updated Branch members on recent changes to the ‘pivotal reference code of practice in the UK’, BS5266 Part 1.
Alan Daniels, who is also a senior member of the emergency lighting sector’s main technical body, ICEL, devised his CPD presentation to explain the background behind the changes, and provide clear guidance on the way the latest version of the code of practice should be interpreted and adopted. He explained: “Fire safety legislation changes the nature of the way BS 5266-1 is applied, and it is no longer prescriptive, but rather an essential element in enabling the Responsible Person (or ‘duty holder’) to demonstrate that their premises are safe.” The P4 speaker also covered testing systems.
