World Congress promises varied programme

The conference programme for the 23rd IFHE World Congress, to be held at the UCA University in Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires, from 12-16 October this year (HEJ – February, May, and August 2013, and February 2014), is an extremely varied and topical one.

Conference presentations and sessions at the event, which will be themed ‘Healthcare facilities in times of radical changes’, will include: a look at ‘Disaster Mitigation through facilities management and hospital business continuity plans’, by IFHE past President, Professor Yasushi Nagasawa; a session on ‘The green hospital – design proposals’, chaired by Darryl Pitcher of the Institute of Hospital Engineering Australia, and Javier Sartorio of Argentina’s AADAIH; a focus on ‘Technology and health services – equipment and connectivity – IT systems integration and its impact on the design of a hospital’, chaired by IHEEM’s Ronnie Browne, a member of IFHE’s Executive Board, and Barbara Mouriño of AADAIH, and a session on ‘Solutions for the elderly and disabled’, chaired by Gaston Lam, of Holland’s NVTG, and AAIDAH’s Alicia Preide. Other content will include a discussion on ‘Economic resources vs. sustainability – status of health services and systems’ – chaired by Consuelo Menendez of AARQHOOS and AAIDAH’s Elvira Contreras, and a presentation by Canadian architect and healthcare facility planning and design consultant, Martin Fiset, on ‘Designing hospitals in India’. IHEEM’s IFHE representative, Andy Wavell, will co-chair a session on ‘Sustainability, humanisation – new scenarios’, with the AAIDAH’s Miguel Sartori, while IHEEM President, Greg Markham, will speak on ‘A sustainable approach to developing and maintaining healthcare estates’, and the Institute’s CEO, Julian Amey, will address ‘Connectivity in support of healthcare’.
