Thermostatic taps for new hospital

The New South Glasgow Hospitals Project, currently under construction by Brookfield Multiplex for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, will give Glasgow one of the UK’s most advanced adult acute services, and will be Scotland’s biggest critical care complex – a 1,109 bed adult acute hospital adjoining a 256-bed children’s hospital.

Horne Engineering’s Building Better Healthcare award-winning Optitherm thermostatic tap and TSV1-3 surfacemounted shower panels have been selected by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and the project team. Clinical areas are practically laid out with Optitherm taps serving, sometimes back to back, clinical washhandbasins and sluice troughs. Assisted WC and shower rooms off the main ward area feature a specialised Horne thermostatic shower panel with pipe-cover, hose, HTM 04-01-compliant single function handset, and BS 8300-compliant lever controls, which enable greater independence for the user. Horne says the Optitherm and shower panels were chosen ‘owing to the many benefits embedded in their practical designs, which assist infection control, ensure safe surface temperatures, simplify installation, cleaning, and maintenance, and exceed stringent healthcare performance regulations’. The finished South Glasgow Hospitals will contain approximately 3,300 Optitherm taps and 1,200 TSV1 shower panels.
