Car park has ‘living’ green wall and PV panels

VINCI Park UK has opened a new £14 million car park at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, which has added 1,228 new parking spaces for visitors, patients and staff.

As part of a 30-year concession contract with Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, VINCI Park led on the design, construction, and preparatory works for the car park.

The contract was awarded following a competitive tender, and forms part of extensive wider development at Addenbrooke’s, via which the Trust aims to have Europe’s best biomedical campus.

The new car park incorporates a ‘twisted’ aluminium structure, with a ‘living’ green wall running round the perimeter, and a green roof. Having already been inspected and awarded a ‘park mark for safer parking’ by the British Parking Association, it also features photovoltaic solar panels, which will provide the site with up to 20% of its own energy from renewable sources, while provision has been made for electric cars and bikes, and additional disabled parking spaces added.
