IBI Group says that, with a significant rise in the number of service-users being admitted to mental health facilities, ‘it has never been more important to harness the power of design to enhance the care environment’.
The company added “However, with positive advances in mental health design, should we be considering these features when looking to enhance patient recovery in acute healthcare buildings?”
“Mental health and physical health are inextricably linked,” says architect, Martha McSweeney. “Poor mental health has an effect on physical health, and long-term physical illness can lead to an increased prevalence of mental health conditions.”
Martha McSweeney will be one of the leading experts speaking at this year’s Healthcare Estates conference. Referencing recent experience, she will be exploring ‘Mental Health Design to Support Recovery’, on 7 October from 2.55 pm on the ‘Planning, Design and Construction’ stage.
