A ‘Michael Parkinson-style’ one-to-one interview which saw Fabrice Muamba, the Zaire-born ex-professional footballer who survived a cardiac arrest while playing for Bolton Wanderers in March 2012 that saw his heart stop beating for 78 minutes, tell his story.
His audience was the Institute’s immediate Past-President, Greg Markham, the presentation of several of IHEEM’s Annual Awards, a delicious three-course dinner, and a record attendance of over 450 guests, combined to make this year’s IHEEM Annual Awards & Dinner, on 7 October in Manchester, a memorable evening. HEJ editor, Jonathan Baillie, reports.
This year’s Awards & Dinner, hosted by ‘modern-day jazz singer’ and Master of Ceremonies, Andy Powell, took place in the International suite at the Manchester Mercure Piccadilly Hotel. After a drinks reception, guests took their seats, and Chris Northey, who had taken over from Greg Markham as President at IHEEM’s 2014 AGM a few hours earlier, welcomed those assembled, and thanked the exhibitors and sponsors for their support, before moving briefly to look ahead to his two-year term in office. He said one of his key priorities would be strengthening IHEEM’s partnerships with its Company, Trust, and University Affiliates, as well as with industry bodies such as HefmA, CIBSE, IPEM, and SoPHE. By extending IHEEM’s membership base to recruit more technicians, apprentices, and, craftspeople, IHEEM hoped, he said, to make the Institute ‘wholly inclusive’.
