Taking control of limescale

Sentinel Commercial says preventing limescale formation in large-scale hot water systems, appliances, and sanitary fittings, is ‘easy and cost- effective’ using its new, improved KalGUARD system

The company said: “This scientifically proven device, which uses electrolytic technology recommended by the Compliance Guide to Part L, to prevent limescale build-up, is already installed in thousands of UK premises, including healthcare facilities.”

Usually specified where water hardness is 200 ppm or more, KalGUARD permanently ‘conditions’ water by dosing it with a very low level of stable zinc via an electrolytic process. This forces naturally-occurring calcium carbonate crystals to form as soft, non- deposit-forming aragonite, rather than hard, deposit-forming calcite.

Independent tests at Cranfield University have ‘proven KalGUARD’s ability to reduce limescale drastically’. The company said: “By preventing limescale formation, KalGUARD can help maximise energy efficiency. Other benefits of limescale prevention include a more dependable hot water supply, better water pressure, and easier, faster, cleaning of sanitary fittings.”
