Water system safety event

Dr Jimmy Walker, Public Health England Water System microbiology and decontamination expert, George McCracken, head of Estates Risk and Environment at the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, Professor Hans Curt-Flemming, of the Biofilm Centre at the University of Duisburg Essen, and John Newbold, HM specialist inspector at the HSE, will be among the speakers at a two-day event in Winchester from 7-8 September focusing on water microbiology and water system safety.

The International Biodeterioration and Biodegradation Society (IBBS)/Public Health England event, at the University of Winchester – ‘Water Microbiology – Current and Emerging Issues in Healthcare’, will examine topics ranging from ‘The role of the water regulator in protecting the public’, ‘An environmental health officer’s perspective on an environmental outbreak of Legionnaire’s Disease’, and ‘Control of Legionella and other waterborne microorganisms – pertinent decision based on evidence’, to ‘Asset management and monitoring your water systems’. 

The main speakers will be prominent microbiologists, analytical scientists specialising in microbial testing, and disinfection specialists involved in water supply and microbial control.
