The British Parking Association (BPA) has recently worked with the Department of Health to update parking guidelines for NHS Trusts.
Detailed guidance was published in late March this year in the form of a new Health Technical Memorandum (HTM), 07-03: ‘NHS car-parking management: environment and sustainability’ (2015 edition). The guidelines include case studies of good practice that other NHS Trusts are encouraged to emulate.
The new guidance, which supersedes the 2006 edition of HTM 07-03, has been produced to outline what measures NHS organisations should have in place, and what measures can be implemented that represent good practice in car parking strategies, and also improve the overall patient and visitor experience. Sustainable transport measures are also discussed in detail to highlight the options that NHS organisations can use to lower dependency on singleoccupancy cars, reduce parking demand, and increase accessibility to healthcare for all.
Kelvin Reynolds, the BPA’s director of Policy & Public Affairs, said: “We were really pleased to assist the Department of Health in producing these new guidelines. It is an excellent document that we commend to all Trusts and parking operators to ensure that they strike the right balance between being fair to patients, visitors, and staff, and ensuring that facilities are managed effectively for the good of everyone.
