‘Pods’ solve consultation space issue

Wagstaff Interiors Group will exhibit a ‘ground-breaking’ sound-proofed pod which it says is ‘demountable, easy to relocate, cost-efficient, private, infection control friendly, and installable with the minimum of disruption’.

The interior fit-out specialist has recently installed the new Acoustic Consultation Pods within a busy Surgical Admissions Unit at The York Hospital. Becci Lord, the hospital’s capital projects manager, said: “The Unit at was in urgent need of additional consultation space, to improve patient assessment and admission flow at peak times. We discussed with Wagstaff developing an existing standard office ‘pod’ with a view to providing a solution.”

The ‘pods’ – designed to comply with HTM guidance on acoustics and with infection prevention policies – allowed the creation of consultation spaces with minimal disruption. The pods have now been in use for a few months and, Wagstaff says, ‘feedback has been unanimously positive, while the additional consultation space has proven of enormous benefit’.

Typical pod construction entails the use of 10 mm thick back-painted and doubleglazed toughened glass panels with integral acoustic foam; acoustic ceilings with integral LED lighting, and a PIR sensor-activated air circulation fan, plus ‘Occupied/Vacant’ signage.

The pods also feature glazed, soft-close sliding doors, and internal power/data tailored to customer requirements.
