DORMA is encouraging anyone responsible for specifying or installing fire doors to ensure that all individual elements of the doorset have been third party accredited and certified.
Graham Hulland, G.A.I. M.Inst.A.I., product marketing manager, said: “Fire doors are often the first line of defence in a fire. All responsible for the specification, installation, or maintenance of fire doors, hardware, and ironmongery, need to know what is legal, and what is considered best practice to ensure compliance and the highest levels of safety.”
DORMA points out that ‘legally the essential hardware selected must be CE marked’, while Approved Document Part B of the Building Regulations recommends that all fire door assemblies be third party-certificated to ensure that products are fit for purpose.
The company said: “Those responsible for fire doors should check that all components are compatible with the door specification, including, closers, hinges, locks, intumescent seals, panic hardware, door furniture, hold-open and freeswing devices, and signage. It is vital to check the ‘scope of approval’ on manufacturers’ test certificates, which details the product’s suitability for door types, and the installation variants which could potentially occur.”
