Icopal’s Monarfloor Tranquilt lightweight acoustic isolation system for floating screeds has helped create a peaceful environment within The Sick Children’s Trust’s Scott House, an on-site ‘home from home’ for family members of sick children being cared for at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne
Tranquilt, a lightweight acoustic isolation system for floating screeds, was selected under the E-FC-11 specification of the ‘robustdetails’ scheme – ‘the alternative to precompletion sound testing for satisfying Part E of the Building Regulations’. Sub-contractor, EDS Floors, proposed the system to complement its own ‘Alphaflow’ flowing screed, on the basis that, in combination, the two can ‘equal or better’ the performance of other acoustic systems.
Icopal says Tranquilt is significantly lighter than rubber matting, ‘putting less strain on installers’, while ‘with superior dynamic stiffness and acoustic isolation’, it reduces impact and flanking sound transmission within pre-cast and in-situ concrete separating party floors by forming an isolation layer between sub-floor and finished screed. Via the combination of Tranquilt and Alphaflow screed, the floor was ready to be worked on within 24 hours, saving main contractor, Brims Construction, time and money.
