‘When you recall the most effective training you have experienced, it is likely to be due to the trainer’s expertise and delivery’, argues Eastwood Park, which says it ‘continues to ensure an effective balance of highly qualified in-house and associate healthcare sector experts’.
For example, Sylvia Martin, the Barts Health NHS Trust’s decontamination lead, is the Eastwood Park trainer for decontamination lead training. The £1.25 bn turnover NHS Trust operates five local hospitals, with its 15,000-strong workforce serving 2.5 million patients across East London. Decontamination has multiple stakeholders, and all work closely with Sylvia Martin in her day-today role, helping to monitor and advise on the decontamination process.
She said: “A decontamination lead gives an organisation assurance that the risks associated with decontamination are fully recognised, and are being managed appropriately in accordance with current regulatory requirements. We need to ensure that an organisation is aware of developments within decontamination, has policies and procedures that ensure compliance, and suitable processes in place for the acquisition and maintenance of medical devices and equipment, and that decontamination is undertaken in suitable environments by competent staff.”
Eastwood Park’s ‘Decontamination Lead – role & responsibilities’ training is scheduled throughout the year.
