‘Flat pack’ emergency unit

Howorth Medical has recently been involved in building a mobile emergency surgical unit comprising a twin barn theatre, laboratories, recovery rooms and a TSSU, which can be transported to each destination in “flat pack” form, for assembly on site.

The company was contracted to design and supply complete ventilation systems in two modular plant rooms, which were fully fitted-out in the Howorth factory with heating and cooling air handling units (AHUs) and HVAC controls. Within the theatre, the company supplied specialised equipment including surgeons’ panels, operating lamps and AGSS systems.

As this emergency unit may be deployed in a wide variety of situations and climates, the HVAC systems have been specifically designed to ensure they can function fully in sub-zero temperatures or in desert conditions of up to 50°C.

They also incorporate four levels of filtration in order to combat the sand clouds generated by incoming and outgoing helicopters.
