Mitie’s pest control business is offering a new service combining drone inspection with hawk control to reduce urban seagull infestation.
The company said: “Seagulls in urban spaces have become one of the most difficult pests to discourage once settled on a roof. This is why Mitie’s pest control business has launched a unique combined service offering drone inspection coupled with falcon control to keep the winged pests at bay.”
The process begins with using Mitie’s drones to inspect roof-level spaces. If nests are identified, a hawk can be reliably used to further deter gull activity on the particular building or structure. Mitie said: “The presence of a hawk quickly lets the pest gulls know that the area is no longer safe, and encourages them to establish a new pattern of behaviour elsewhere. The drone is then re-deployed to monitor the previously affected space, to ensure it is seagull-free after falconry services have been used.
“Using the drone before and after deterrent action removes the need to jeopardise technicians’ safety by working at height. It is also a more efficient means of confirming that the job is done, and that the seagulls have not returned.”
