NHS Innovations London (NHSIL), the organisation responsible for intellectual property (IP) management within London NHS Trusts, has announced the appointment of James Cochrane as its new chairman and the election of five new board members.
NHSIL works to help Trust staff convert their ideas into products or services while ensuring intellectual property is protected. In its first year NHSIL has developed an impressive product pipeline with 12 products in development, four in clinical trials and 10 in commercialisation. There are a further 100 projects currently progressing through its evaluation process.
The five newly elected board members, who were chosen by the NHSIL Trust members, are Robert Naylor, chief executive of University College London Hospital NHS Trust who will represent the London University Hospital Trusts; Bunia Gorelick, R&D manager of Homerton University Hospital Foundation Trust who will represent the London Acute Hospital Trusts; Robert Bell, chief executive of Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust who will represent the London Special Trusts; Simon Crawford, chief executive of West London Mental Health Trust who will represent the London Mental Health Trusts; and Keith Meadows, associate director of R&D of North East London Consortium for Research & Development who will represent the London Primary Care Trusts.
Sir Jonathan Michael (chief executive, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust), the chairman of the interim Board which oversaw the formation of NHSIL, will remain as chairman of the NHSIL Steering Group of the 65 NHS member Trusts.
