Recruitment success increasingly recognised

Happy New Year to you all – I hope you have had a wonderful time over the holiday and are now reinvigorated for 2005, writes Tammy Simmons, IHEEM’s recruitment manager.

It is worth noting that 2004 was perhaps the best year IHEEM has seen regarding the recruitment of new members. With over 200 applications received and 150 people awarded a grade, we have seen our membership increase two fold. This year, I aim to continue that success. At the end of this month, there is a membership committee meeting at which over 50 applications will be reviewed. Hopefully all will be awarded a membership grade.

Tammy Simmons was busy driving home recruitment messages at Healthcare Estates, Harrogate.

Some months ago, Andrew Ramsey, executive director at the Engineering Council UK, visited IHEEM’s head office to find out a little more about our Institute. I spoke to him about the recruitment campaign and its incredible success. He was impressed, and as a result I was invited to give a presentation at a membership seminar last month. Many of the large institutes were there – IMechE, IEE and BCS to name but a few. IHEEM was perhaps the smallest of them all – however, our success made people sit up and take notice. Not only we have turned the membership losses around but also IHEEM has been increasingly recognised by our fellow institutes as being successful in its recruitment activity.

Please help me to continue the success throughout 2005 and beyond. Without your help, IHEEM would not be where it is today. So thank you once again for your support for the last year.
