Healthcare construction and engineering specialist, MTX, recently completed and handed over a new modular operating theatre complex at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital following a just 29 weeks on site
MTX was awarded the contract to design and build the new facility in July 2015 – the goal being to provide additional operating theatre and recovery capacity to allow the Trust to remove a temporary hired theatre facility. The project is part of an early phase of construction for a site-wide development.
The new modular theatre complex, comprising two theatre suites, plus first and second stage recovery and ancillary areas, is on the edge of the site adjacent to the existing theatre department. The new extension was linked into the hospital building via two small ground floor linkways, and has a standalone first floor plant room and external HVAC plant.
Installation of the modules took place via a well-planned operation over two weekends. Full design – including building layout, building specification, and all building services installation and specification – was undertaken by MTX.
Externally the new building is finished with an easy-to-maintain Plastisol panel system in keeping with the adjacent hospital modular buildings.
