International temperature control specialist, ICS Cool Energy, has installed an ‘innovative air-handling solution’ in a BMI Healthcare hospital as part of the healthcare provider’s annual £40 m facilities maintenance programme.
It developed and project-managed the full solution, ‘from concept to completion’, providing a new high-efficiency chiller and bespoke air-handling units for two operating theatres. To overcome the restricted working and plant room space, the three air-handling units were delivered in flat packs and assembled on site. The ‘highly energy-efficient’ Aptus chiller is a ‘low maintenance unit with high energy efficiency from a compact footprint’, here bespoke-manufactured to ensure it met HTM 03 and the space restrictions.
ICS Cool Energy said: “With close control over temperatures in a life-critical environment essential, a new Trend building management system was installed, allowing integration of controls, with intelligent panels in the theatres which allow surgical staff to adjust the temperatures.”
The system allows remote monitoring 24/7, and BMI Healthcare has also opted for an ICS Cool Energy service contract, with engineers on call ‘around the clock, 365 days a year’
