A recruit to IHEEM’s Medical Devices Technology Platform describes an interesting career, and explains what he feels should be the Platform’s major areas of focus going forward.
IHEEM’s Technical Platforms have a number of important roles, including – the Institute’s website explains – creating policy on technology issues, advising the Council, guiding members ‘on significant issues arising’, managing technical responses and activities, and assisting the Professional Development Committee with relevant seminars. Here HEJ editor, Jonathan Baillie, talks to a new recruit to the Medical Devices Technical Platform, Llew D’Souza, discussing a career which has seen him lend his expertise to a broad spectrum of public and private healthcare organisations as far afield as Gambia and the Maldives. The highly experienced engineer also explains what he feels should be the Platform’s major areas of focus going forward.
When seeking new recruits to its various Technical Platforms – of which there are now 11 (Decontamination; Electrical; Medical Gases; Ventilation; Water, International Technical; Architecture and design of the built environment; Health and Safety; Governance & Compliance; Medical Devices, and Specialist Engineering), IHEEM is always keen to harness the skills and expertise of professionals with in-depth, broadranging experience and expertise, accompanied by a good insight into the key issues for professionals working within their particular discipline
Having gained over 30 years’ experience with a variety of EBME equipment – spanning devices ranging from audiology components to MRI scanners, and with specialist expertise in areas including Medical Physics, Medical Informatics, and Acoustics, Llew D’Souza certainly fits this profile.
