New scald protection valve for safer baths

A new anti-scald mixing valve for bathtubs has been developed and released by Intatec. The valve is designed to mix hot and cold water to create a comfortable bath temperature and reduce the number of injuries and deaths resulting from scalding bath water.

Intatec claims that there are around 20 deaths and 570 serious injuries annually as a result of scalding, with the elderly and children under five are the most at risk.

The valve can be fitted out of sight behind a bath panel, or as part of a new tap.

Cynthia Fisher, Intatec’s commercial director said “There is no doubt that anti-scald valves can save lives and a whole lot of misery and disfigurement.

Now is the right time for installers to be offering anti-scald valves as part of a new bathroom installation. The stand alone valves are really good value, and the built in ones comparable with other good quality brassware, so safety doesn’t come at a premium and there’s always the added convenience.”
