Wardray Premise has been the agent for speciality glass from Corning – a ‘world leader’ in radiation shielding glass – for many years, meaning that Wardray glass products provided for facilities such as hospital X-ray rooms ‘are high quality, meet European standards, and have excellent physical properties, such as good visual clarity’.
As Corning’s agent, Wardray Premise holds extensive supplies of stock glass, ensuring it can provide glass at short notice. In addition, Wardray staff can cut lead glass to a customers’ specific dimension requirements. Due to the weight, fragility, and cost of lead glass, Wardray staff, rather than a third party, deliver these products.
The company said: “As part of the revision of IEC 61331 standard, a specific method of testing has been introduced for X-ray and Gamma-ray measurement, which has been proactively adopted by Corning in advance of the June 2017 deadline. Customers can be assured that Corning’s quality-controlled manufacturing and testing processes ensure that their glass complies with the new standard, and that lead equivalence values are applied correctly.”
Wardray offers:
- Corning Med-X Glass – suitable for shielding against X-rays from equipment operating in the 80 to 300kV range;
- Corning Med-Gamma Glass – a protective shielding glass against gamma-based PET radiation, as specified by IEC 61331:2014 (Standard Gamma Radiation).
In the UK, Wardray Premise sells lead glass to third parties, and uses the same quality- assured lead glass in its shielded windows, screens, and doors.
