Members of IHEEM’s South West Branch were the first to hear a new presentation put together by Static Systems entitled ‘Nurse Call Systems – should I go wired or wireless?’, given at a recent Branch technical meeting at Gleeds’ Bristol office.
The company said: “Wireless nurse call is of growing interest, but what are the issues with these systems? Are they really fit-for-purpose in an acute hospital environment? What should be considered when specifying them, and what about lifecycle, battery life, and maintenance?
“Our latest presentation focuses on these issues while reviewing the merit, application, and functionality, of each solution.”
Phil Wade, Static’s director of Marketing, who co-presented the seminar with technical director, Richard Tew, said: “Wireless nurse call has been widely used throughout the care home environment for many years. It is now being considered for use in a number of acute and specialist hospitals, but is it really an appropriate solution? Our view is very straightforward – wireless nurse call does have a place, but needs to be pragmatically thought through as one option in a portfolio of solutions. In considering its deployment, one needs to think about the intended use and the environment, compliance with HTM 08-03, and battery life, among other things. As a supplier manufacturing both wired and wireless systems we are in a unique position to advise and offer an unbiased opinion.”
The seminar is available to other IHEEM branches, and to design teams and specifiers, either at their premises, or at Static Systems’ West Midlands head office, where it can be provided as part of a visit to the company’s Design & Innovation Centre, which incorporates the P22 Repeatable Ward.
