Money saving chair carries its weight

Yorkshire-based healthcare products manufacturer James Spencer & Co has designed a new bedside chair that it claims could help save purchasers cash in the long run.

The company, based in Wilsden, Bradford, is targeting its Pentire range of healthcare furniture at the NHS, care homes, local authorities, housing associations, private industry and leisure.

The entry-level model is being extensively marketed for both its durability and long-term savings potential.

James Spencer & Co chairman Richard Spencer said: “The Pentire is a steel-framed chair, independently tested to carry up to 100 stones in weight, which can be re-used time and time again and will hardly ever need replacing.

“We’ve put a great deal of thought into the design of this product. The big selling point as far as we are concerned is that the upholstery can be replaced quickly and easily on site when it becomes worn or torn.

“After around three years of wear and tear, traditional bedside chairs may have to be replaced with brandnew, full price alternatives. The Pentire can be reupholstered ‘asnew’ for half the price.

“It sells at £145, a similar price to traditional wooden-framed, upholstered bedside chairs, with replacement upholstery costing £75.” In addition, the company said there were also important health, safety and environmental considerations.

The Pentire range has been purpose-designed with ‘hygiene gaps’ to allow thorough cleaning to reduce cross-infection. It also has inbuilt ‘housekeeping’ wheels, so the empty chair can be wheeled to different locations, eliminating the need for lifting and potential back strain. With the ability to reuse chairs, green issues are being taken into consideration.
