Falklands location presents no barrier for Brandon

Brandon Medical has ‘transformed’ the operating theatre at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in Stanley, capital of the Falklands Islands, ensuring it received a modern update with the latest medical lighting technology.

The hospital is the base for the Government Health Service, providing all medical, dental, and community health services. Its previous operating lights were over 30 years’ old. The Islands’ remote location posed a unique challenge to Brandon to deliver its products. The company flew out engineer, Phil Wilkinson, with the Royal Air Force from Brize Norton in Oxford, who travelled for 16 hours to reach the Islands.

Brandon Medical installed its Quasar eLite operating theatre light, which offers staff ‘premium quality movement and a highly intense light’. ‘Distinctive features’ include red balance control and ‘fat beam technology’, ‘allowing the very best and accurate visualisation of tissue during surgery’. The fat beam technology reportedly produces the market’s biggest light beams. An HD camera fits fully enclosed inside the light head, while an additional monitor arm houses a high definition video monitor unit.
