It could be argued that the healthcare sector is currently facing one of its most challenging periods. With an influx of new technology changing the way that primary care Trusts work, an ageing population, and an over-stretched NHS service, the need for well-designed, well-equipped, and well-located primary healthcare facilities is greater than ever.
However, as the built environment can significantly affect a patient’s health and wellbeing, there is now a new range of complex planning, design, and construction challenges for the NHS itself, and for public sector and private companies. Facilities that have a welldesigned internal environment to motivate and uplift staff, and encourage rest and recovery in patients, are vital.
