The latest information on the legal duties and responsibilities for owners and users of liquid gas storage tanks has been issued by the British Compressed Gases Association (BCGA).
The BCGA said: “In keeping with stringent health and safety requirements for their use, there is both a legal duty and a responsibility to ensure that the equipment is installed, maintained, and operated correctly.”
To help those responsible, the BCGA has revised its Leaflet 12, ‘Liquid Gas Storage Tanks – Your Responsibilities’ (downloadable free at www.tinyurl.com/ ya6bzluf). Leaflet 12 is also relevant to the storage of cryogenic liquids and gases – both compressed and reduced temperature systems. It includes details of the actions needed before first fill and subsequent filling, and guidance on routine checks and maintenance and inspection. Examination, repairs and modifications, and revalidation, are also covered.
