Due to the use of antibiotics, health care acquired infections (HCAIs) are more resistant than ever, placing renewed emphasis on hand hygiene.
Teal Patents, a leading manufacturer of portable hand washing units, has developed the Hygienius MediWash – a self-contained, ‘ultra-portable unit’ which features a synchronised, built-in video that enables users to follow the seven hand rubbing routines needed to achieve hygienically clean hands, as specified by the WHO – ‘to directly address the serious issue of handtransmitted infection’.
Managing director, Manty Stanley, explained: “Almost one in 15 hospital patients are affected by HCAIs in the UK, with the elderly and vulnerable particularly at risk, resulting in prolonged patient stays, blocked beds, and augmented operating cost. The new, more virulent strain of these infections, with no medicines to combat them, often results in premature death, particularly in the elderly. Washing hands with soap under warm running water saves lives because it’s proven to be the single most effective procedure in helping stop the spread of germs and infection. By placing Teal’s Hygienius MediWash in strategic locations, the risk posed by the 80% of diseases spread by touch could be eliminated.”
The MediWash is available for hire or purchase, for delivery within 24 hours across mainland UK.
