Training ensures that employees are ‘aware of their duty’

The revised HTM 04-01, Safe Water in Healthcare Premises, emphasises the importance of healthcare workers being aware of their duty to protect the health of patients, staff, and visitors, stipulating that:

  • Supervisors, managers, and operatives, need to have received adequate training in respect of water hygiene and microbiological control.
  • Healthcare organisations should develop a Water Safety Plan (WSP), with a risk-management approach.

Immerse Training has developed two City & Guildsaccredited one-day courses to address these requirements. Its ‘Water Hygiene Training in Healthcare Building Water Systems’ course addresses the training requirements advocated in the new document. It is designed for all involved in water hygiene, including those responsible for tasks such as outlet flushing and cleaning of washbasins, maintenance staff, and individuals defining strategy and developing procedures.

The ‘Awareness and Management of Water Safety Plans (WSP) in Building Water Systems course’  is ‘for all involved with patient safety, and specifically estates and facilities and infection prevention and control teams’. It focuses on specific additional measures to control/minimise the risk of Legionella and P. aeruginosa in healthcare water systems.
