New locks at the Queen Elizabeth

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Romford, Essex, has installed more than 1,000 Glutz locks, latches and handles as part of a £215 million PFI new build project.

Chosen by the hospital was a combination of heavy duty mortice locks and latches from Glutz, specifically type 4621, 4625, 4641 and 4651 products. The 4621 sash lock, 4641 passage latch and 4651 bathroom lock use an anti-friction lever latch, while the 4625 is a single turn deadbolt lock designed for store rooms. The Glutz Professional Oslo stainless steel lever handle with 5620C roses, was also supplied for the project.

The locks and handles were tested in combination to over 1.5 million cycles, a process that took three months. The 4000 series of locks and Professional Oslo handle are specifically designed for large buildings such as office blocks and public buildings such as Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The locks and latches are tested to EN12209 with a Category Of Use-Level 3 – the highest available. The visible forend of the locks are manufactured from satin finished stainless steel, offering durability and resistance to scratching, corrosion and other wear in a stylish finish.
