A consortium of PFI healthcare development specialists, Ryhurst and Sir Robert McAlpine, has been selected to partner Redcar & Cleveland PCT (formerly Langbaraugh PCT) in Teesside to develop a new £30 million integrated hospital and health centre in Redcar.
The new facility, which will serve 100,000 people across south east Teesside, will replace both the outdated Stead Memorial Hospital and the Redcar Health Centre that was built in the 1970s. Sir Robert McAlpine will undertake the construction of the new hospital and health centre, which will accommodate services provided by the existing facilities including a 32-bed ward for patients requiring respite care, palliative care, chronic disease management and rehabilitation. Other services to be relocated to the new facility are an outpatient department, day theatre and endoscopy, a minor injuries unit, an X-ray and ultrasound department (including “docking” facilities for other types of scanners), a physiotherapy and hydrotherapy department, Day Hospital and four GP Practices.
In a joint statement Ryhurst and Sir Robert McAlpine said: “Our partnership has proven a great success on this project. We look forward to a continuing successful working relationship with the Trust to provide the very best possible healthcare facility on Teesside for many years to come.”
