Contract awarded for Rotherham centre

Construction company Morgan Ashurst has been awarded a £9.9 million design and build contract to construct a threestorey primary care centre for St Paul’s Developments in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

The contract will see the company constructing Rotherham Primary Care Trust’s new health centre as part of the town centre’s regeneration scheme. Situated by the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation canal, the highspecification 55,000 ft2 medical centre will provide a walk-in facility for urgent care, community dentistry, X-ray and ultrasound facilities, cardiograph care, osteoporosis support, family planning, physiotherapy, podiatry and two minor operating theatres.

The centre will comprise steel-frame, brick-cladding and cedar-clad gables and will feature a glazed entrance atrium that spans the full height of the three-storey building. As part of the project, Morgan Ashurst will also create 10,000 ft2 of office accommodation located mainly on the top floor. This will be a combination of open-plan and partitioned spaces for use by Rotherham Primary Care Trust. The company will also provide a large car park and undertake roadworks linking the building to the main road. The new medical centre is due for completion in October.
