Systems capture daylight

A North London private hospital has converted unused interior space into four additional daycare rooms, each illuminated by Solatube 21-C Daylighting Systems from SolaLighting Ltd.

The systems capture daylight at roof level and bounce it efficiently down to the rooms where patients can enjoy the light, or dim it by remote control if they prefer.

In converting the previously unused interior space to additional day-care rooms, the hospital wanted to ensure that the rooms could be flooded with natural light, while giving patients the choice of reduced lighting levels. This was achieved by installing a 530 mm Solatube 21-C Daylighting System for each room. A remote controlled electric daylight dimmer in each tube enables patients to enjoy as much, or as little natural light as they like as they rest after their procedures. The dimmer is a variable position butterfly baffle that fits into the tube and is controlled by a low voltage pressure switch.

The Solatube 21-C is part of SolaLighting’s SolaMaster Series. With 99.7% reflective Spectralight Infinity tubing, these systems bring daylight deep into buildings where natural lighting was not previously an option. Featuring the largest aperture tubing in the SolaLighting range, and the patented LightTracker reflector in the polycarbonate roof dome, each Solatube 21-C can illuminate up to 30 m2, subject to application. Tube lengths up to 18 m are possible. Each Solatube 21-C also has a patented transition box that converts the 530 mm tube to a 600 mm square diffuser to fit neatly into a commercial suspended ceiling grid or drywall ceiling.
