Anti-bacterial door coating

Door and doorset manufacturer Leaderflush Shapland Ireland will showcase its Hygieniform high impact anti-bacterial PVC, which incorporates Hygienilac, a new doorset coating the company says will provide significant benefits for the healthcare sector, particularly for environments where C. difficile is of concern.

Hygienliac is homogenously distributed through the full thickness of the PVC, meaning that, even if the surface is scratched, the PVC will retain its antibacterial properties. Effective protection against such harmful bacteria as C. diff, MRSA, Salmonella and E. coli is said to be provided. Described as a “biocidally proactive wood lacquer”, Hygienilac will also “remain effective for years” because of its inherently low water solubility. It is also solvent-free, non-carcinogenic, non-mutagenic, non-skin sensitising and “completely UV-stable”.

Part of Leaderflush Shapland’s Plasform range, Hygienilac can also be added to the company’s powder-coated aluminium and stainless steel architectural hardware, providing a complete anti-bacterial doorset solution.

The special material has passed British Standard 6250 tests for severe usage and has approvals from the Food and Drug Administration, the Health and Safety Executive and the Environmental Protection Agency. It has also been given a Point 3 endorsement by the NHS Infection Control Rapid Review Panel, while C. diff spores showed a greater than Log 3 reduction obtained after 60 minutes’ contact time under analysis by the Food & Drug Analytical Services (FDAS) BS EN 13704 neutralisation method.
