Booklet explains civil engineering’s role

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) has taken action to improve the public’s understanding of civil engineering by publishing The Little Book of Civilisation.

The first of its kind, the booklet explains, in simple terms, how civil engineers shape the world we live in. It has been designed and written to appeal to all ages, but is specifically targeted at young people, so that they are encouraged to consider joining the profession and reduce the longterm skills shortage threatening the engineering sector. The booklet is available at tourist attractions, museums and schools throughout the UK. The free booklet has an initial print run of 125,000, part funded by a collection of prominent group civil engineering firms, including Royal Haskoning. The London Transport Museum, Birmingham Thinktank Science Museum and The Falkirk Wheel are all displaying The Little Book of Civilisation.
