West Midlands-based ECO-Logic UK has supplied a programmable water management system for the i-House, a traditional West Bromwich Victorian terraced house refurbished using intelligent technology and “accessfocused building design” to pioneer technologies for both sustainable and assisted living in an existing home for the first time in the UK.
The pair say the house proves “intelligent” technology, “easily transferable to hospitals and clinics”, is “already available and viable” for a variety of construction projects, and not solely for new builds.
The ECO-Logic system controls temperature regulating automatic taps for basins and kitchen sinks, shower and hands-free toilet flush. Rob Chesters, i-Health network manager, Medilink West Midlands said: “It is a great boost for the i-House, combining environmental and assistive benefits, and sleek, state-of-the-art design.”
With specialist insulation and ventilation, and automated lighting and heating, the i-House also features level, keyless entry with widened doorways, easy-to-use, scaldfree taps, and a master control computer that monitors residents’ wellbeing. The computer even turns off taps left running.
The aim of the home is to help participating companies refine, improve and develop their technologies. A programme of visits should raise awareness amongst health service providers, housing associations and local government, and stimulate public interest.
